Although Mason, Texas is known for its historical locations and delicious barbecue, travelers should not overlook another local gem, Sandstone Cellars Winery.
Located just off the Mason Town Square, Sandstone Cellars is a little boutique winery and wine bar owned and by Scott Haupert and Manny Silerio. In 1998, before opening Sandstone Cellars Winery, Haupert and Silerio opened Santos Taqueria, a small restaurant and local favorite. They then bought the building next door to the restaurant for the sole purpose of providing more parking space their restaurant. They soon met Don Pullum, and together transformed the building into Sandstone Cellars Winery. Pullum is an expert winemaker, and has appeared on the ABC reality television show The Taste.
Sandstone Cellars Winery has a bit of a different atmosphere than most of other food and drink stops in Mason. The quaint spot features a small art gallery, a wine tasting bar, and plenty of delectable appetizers to accompany your drink of choice.
